One question that I get asked a lot is “Where can I find free images?” The daring might grab random images wherever they find them. For commercial use, you’d better watch out. Copyrights aren’t just for text. You need to either pay for permission, or find images where permission has already been granted.

I provided some resources in a previous blog post, “How to Find Free Images for Your Promotions“. Well, it’s been three years since that article, so here are a few more sites you can find free images:

Pexels – Plenty of free photographs to search through. All of their photos are licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license, which means the they are free to use for any legal purpose.

PixaBay – Images found here also have CC0 licenses, including photos, vectors, and clip art. You can also sort search results by size, color, category, etc.

Negative Space – Very similar to Pexels. Only photographs.

FancyCrave – These are all photographs also. Very high quality images.

Unrestricted – If you need illustrations, this is the place to go. Strangely, their search box is at the bottom of the page.

PikWizard – Includes an online image editor, which is great if you don’t have Photoshop.

Keep in mind that it may take some time to find the right images. Your patience will pay off! With these resources you may never need to buy stock photos again.
