We’ve all gotten them: attractive promotional emails from our favorite online store. But how often do you see an appealing offer, think to yourself “that’s a good deal!”, and flag it or put in a folder to use later simply because you’re not in a position to buy something right then and there? How many other times do you receive one and just not see it? We’ll never know. In an ideal world, your audience would always be at a place and time where they can open your marketing emails, jump right into your store and take advantage immediately. However, this is not realistic.
While smart phones and mobile shopping have made it easier, the truth is that many people check their email at points in the day when placing an online order is either not possible or just isn’t on their radar. It might be first thing in the morning, arriving at work, during a quick lunch, just before heading home, at a red light, or even waiting for a pot of water to boil.
Unfortunately, that great offer which made such an impression on them just moments ago has fallen into an email abyss. There are also bound to be consumers who are in a place to buy, but procrastinate for one reason or another. It’s important to remember that every hour, day, or week that goes by is a potential lost order.
One simple, yet effective way to recover lost opportunities such as these, is to send a reminder email about the promotion just before its expiration. Include the promotion terms and end date right in the subject line. This is a great way to not only engage (or re-engage) your customers, but also provide them with extra motivation to act quickly. This is especially useful for lengthy promotions, such as throughout an entire month, when customers have so much time to take advantage and can easily forget.
Nexternal clients can even schedule these follow up emails right in their Mail Wizard, making it that much easier to compose the reminder with a future send date.
*Nexternal does not recommend checking your email while at a red light.
