If you are a serious online retailer, then at the heart of your business is your Order Management System along with its data. As we start a new year, it’s a good time to go into the Users Section of your Order Management System. There are two primary things to look for:

1. Are there people with access to your system that are no longer with your company? It’s not uncommon for retailers to hire some temporary workers during the holidays. If those employees truly are temporary, disable their access once they leave. If you see other users in there that terminated long ago, it’s important to revise the termination procedures within your company.

2. Are the people in your system with elevated access beyond what they truly need? Most Order Management Systems have several access levels which are designed for different roles within your company. Although the easiest thing to do is make everyone an administrator, it is highly unadvised from a security perspective.

Maintaining the Users Section of your Order Management System is vital to protecting your data and your business. Just imagine the havoc that could be raised by a disgruntled x-employee. Review permissions now and with any personnel change going forward.
