When is the last time you searched for your products or keywords, which are related to them on a social network? If you have never done so now is the time to start social media mining.  Social Media Mining is the process of searching for any post, pin, tweet, update, or comment related to your products or keywords. Anyone can search a social network or use free tools like SocialMention (a real-time social media search and analysis) to find a keyword or product and see all the posts that pertain to those topics.  This can be a great way of finding opportunities with potential customers who have already expressed interest in your products.

A savvy merchant might see this as a buying signal and decide to reach out, connect, or communicate with a prospective customer. The merchant might let the prospective customer know that they have this item in stock, are offering a certain promotion on that product,  or have something that is very similar or better by sending them a direct message, commenting on their post, or resharing their posts.

Social Media Mining or Monitoring can also be a great way to obtain some quick market research data. Data that can help merchants understand what price their peers and competitors are charging for the same products and how they are promoting them.

If you are a Nexternal client it is easy to start determining which products and keywords you should start mining on social networks. Visit your Dashboard inside the Order Management System to see a list of Top Products customer have purchased and Keywords customers have used when searching the store. This will give you a list of the items and keywords you are most likely to find being shared on popular social networks. Next I would visit this page to find the right Social Media Mining tool to fit your needs. Then start mining. We hope you strike gold!
