Best Days to Post on Facebook and Other Facebook Posting Tips!
Many of our clients successfully drive traffic to their websites by engaging their customers and posting promotions on Facebook. For those who are just getting started at Facebook posting, and for those who would like to refine their approach, we’ve compiled some information in this blog post from two recent major studies, including Pandemic’s 2012 study (covering more than 22,000 Facebook pages, over 12.7 million posts, and more than 12.3 billion interactions,) and Buddy Media’s 2012 report “Strategies for Effective Wall Posts: A Timeline Analysis” (analyzing user engagement on more than 1,800 Facebook pages from the world’s largest brands.)
Interestingly, the best and worst days to post on Facebook are often the opposite of the best and worst days to send an email. While the two studies sometimes conflict on their stats, here’s a compilation of their “best days to post on Facebook” data, by industry:
*Automotive – Saturday & Sunday, Pandemic says Friday as well
*Camera/photo – Saturday
*Clothing/Fashion – Buddy Media says Thursday, Wednesday & Saturday, but Pandemic says Monday, Wednesday & Friday
*Electronics – Monday & Wednesday
*Food & Beverage – Buddy Media says Saturday & Sunday, Pandemic says Thursday & Sunday
*General Retail – Sunday & Monday
*Health & Beauty – Buddy Media says Sunday & Monday, Pandemic says Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
*Household Goods – Sunday, Wednesday & Saturday
*Jewelry/Watches – Saturday
*Non-Profits – Sunday & Saturday
*Office Supplies – Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
*Publishing – Sunday
*Sports – Sunday
*Technology – Monday
*Telecommunications – Monday & Friday
*Travel & Leisure – Sunday
*Wine & Spirits – Thursday
Best time of day to post on Facebook – Both studies agree that brands should post during evening hours – Pandemic goes so far as to say that generally, the three best times include Saturday at 10pm, Saturday at 8pm, and Sunday at 7pm.
More Facebook posting tips from the Pros: Based on a smaller second study, Pandemic Labs also advises that photos and videos engage fans much more than status changes and links. They say that videos are shared ten times more often than links posted on Facebook, and photos are shared five times more often thank links.
Buddy Media shares the following additional Facebook Posting Strategy tips:
*Post no more than seven times per week, and no more than 1-2 times per day
*Keep your posts short (under 80 characters) and simple
*Use both long and short url’s together as often as possible
*If you’d like to produce comments and discussion, ask a question, and if you ask a question, ask it at the end of your post
*Other ways to solicit engagement include asking fans to caption photos or other clear calls to action such as fill in the blanks, comment, tell us, watch, visit, etc.
*Using emoticons also increases engagement
In our view, these studies contain some powerful stuff. Apply these principles to your own Facebook posting strategy, and we believe you’ll see your revenues grow.
