It’s Not You- It’s Me!

If someone were to ask you what percentage of your customer base consisted of millennials, would you know the answer? What exactly is a Millennial, anyway? I typically don’t recommend searching Google to find out. The majority of responses just aren’t very nice.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise as human beings generally fear the unknown. And, as you might recall from Psych 101, from fear comes anger. But just being aware of why Millennials have such a bad rap isn’t the point. To know how to attract them as potential customers, you first need to find out what makes them tick.
You don’t have to be a tech giant to capture a Millennial’s attention. Envision yourself outside of one of these ultra-modern retail stores. Think about the kinds of people you would see going in and out; their characteristics, traits and mannerisms. From observation alone you can tell that the types of people that patronize these stores are very social, always on-the-go and seem to have the world at their fingertips. These shoppers are responsible for spending a cool $600 billion* a year alone. The same people could (and should!) be shopping at your online store.
Now that you have a basic understanding of the new ‘it’ crowd, you are ready to attract and retain those new customers. Make sure your brand is interactive and will ebb and flow with the latest social media trends. And, remember the key to success in all budding relationships- make it fun and create a bond (and watch those sales soar!)
