If you’ve ever gotten married or had a baby you know what a hassle it is to create multiple registry lists at multiple retail sites. And if you’ve ever given a wedding or shower gift you know how inconvenient it is to wade through multiple lists, one list at a time, searching for the perfect gift. If you’re a non-profit you could use a great way to let donors know what items you need most.

The universal gift registry system provided by solves this problem for wedding, anniversary, baby and other gift registrants, as well as for nonprofits, by allowing registry holders to create a single list comprised of desired gift items from multiple retailers. also provides great tools for retailers to promote their products for inclusion on those lists.

Adding a universal gift registry is a great marketing opportunity.

Letting your customers know about your integrated universal gift registry is a great reason to reach out to your customers. The more people who place your products on their registry lists (brides, mothers-to-be, non-profits, etc.) the more gift givers who will see your brand and the more sales you will get!

MyRegistry turns customers into your ambassadors with easy tools to spread the word. gives registry holders essential tools to tell family and friends about their registry. Using e-nouncements, as well as’s Facebook and Text Messaging apps, registrants will maximize the number of visitors to their registry, giving your products more exposure to potential buyers. Your logo appears next to each product from your store on a registry gift list, providing you with extended brand exposure.

Integrating is easy makes it easy for retailers to add the functionality to their eCommerce sites – and integration with Nexternal is no exception – in fact, with a special integration written just for Nexternal customers, it couldn’t be easier – simply register an account with MyRegistry, let your MyRegistry representative know that you are a Nexternal customer, and they will generate the code you need to provide you with MyRegistry links on your product pages that match your site beautifully. (MyRegistry is building a handy do-it-yourself code generator that will be posted on their site, but until then your MyRegistry account manager will manually generate the code for you.) Nexternal customers do not have to place the code in every product description – instead, you can simply plunk the code into Layout/AdvancedLayout/Head Addendum and you are all set.

How a gift is purchased
When a purchaser decides to buy a product listed on a gift registry, they will click on the ‘Buy this Gift’ button next to the product. Gifts from your store will be identified with your logo on the gift registry. If the product was added from your store, the purchaser will be sent directly to your product detail page where the customer will place the item in your shopping cart and check out on your website. Customers are then given the opportunity to mark the item as purchased off of the gift registry and send a gift note to the registry holder.

The gift registry tab
If you wish, you can add a new gift registry page to your website. With this page you can allow your customers to conveniently create their gift registry accounts, search for a friend’s registry, or login to their own registries without ever leaving your site. You can even advertise top products by uploading images to that page, perhaps using the Nexternal popular product widget, to rotate on your site’s gift registry page.
