Making the Most of Social Media Connections – Start by Sending a Social Thank You Note
People join social networks to communicate, follow what their friends are up to, and share cool thoughts with each other. Why not give your new followers a reason to spread the word about you from the moment they click “Follow”, “Like”, or “Connect” by sending them a Social Thank You note.
Each time you receive a new Twitter Follower, Facebook Friend, or Google+ follower send them a direct message thanking them for expression of interest. Add one of the following to engage the customer, direct them to your online store, and incentivize them to tell their friends:
1. Add a Coupon – A coupon with a small discount can be a great incentive for your customers to visit your online store and be on the lookout for future social media posts and messages. Create a coupon for each social network you belong to and include it in each social thank you note you send out. “Thanks for following us. Here is a coupon to use on your next order.”
2. Sales or Special Promotions – Provide value to social media followers by making them feel like they’re part of an exclusive club by alerting them of sales and special promotions first. “Hey! Thanks for connecting with us. Be sure to check out our Special Promotions for Facebook friends only.”
3. Answer Any Questions? – Ask your new followers if they have any questions about specific products or topics. Any feedback they provide can help you post better social media messages tailored to your followers in the future. “Thanks for following us. Do you have any questions about our products?”
