I bet if I asked several online merchants which marketing email they send out that has the highest open rate, the merchants would rattle off several different answers such as “it’s my free shipping email” or “people love the 25% off specials.” These are great emails and I also love receiving them, but there’s one email I like getting the most from my favorite online store and without question it’s my Shipping Confirmation email. Think about it, what online shopper doesn’t love to see the “Congratulations your item has shipped” message pop into their inbox? If you’re like me, you open this email as quickly as you can, track your package and see when it will arrive at your doorstep. I always open 100% of my shipping confirmation emails.
Online merchants need to leverage this email to drive more business to their stores. In the shipping confirmation email consider including a coupon code, related items, a message about your referral/rewards program or simply ask for the customer to share their order on Facebook or Twitter. You can even be creative and include something like a “Thank You” video or a funny message telling them how there order is being fulfilled (for a good example of this Google “CDBaby Email”).
It can be very hard to get the attention of your customer base via email, so don’t let this opportunity go to waste. Use the sure-to-be-opened Shipping Confirmation email to your company’s advantage to help drive additional business.
