We’ve all gotten them, tempting promotional emails from our favorite online store. But how often do you see an attractive offer? Think to yourself, “What an amazing deal! I must have that!” Some people flag those emails and others put them in a folder to use later since they might not be in a position to buy something right then and there. There are even times where you have so many emails in your inbox that you may not even see it! The horror!

Ideally, your audience would always be at a time and place where they can open your marketing emails, jump right into your store and take advantage immediately. But let’s be realistic here, in this day and age, most people don’t have that time.

While technology has made online and mobile shopping incredibly easy, the truth is that many people check their email at random times in the day when placing an online order is either not possible or just isn’t something they have time for. Heck, some people are checking emails while driving their cars (something I frown upon)!

As it turns out, that great offer that you painstakingly spent hours on, figuring out the right way to market your sale, has fallen into their email “dark hole”. Often times there are also going to be consumers who are in a place to buy, but continue to put off looking at your marketing email for one reason or another.

Enter Reminder Emails. Reminder emails are simple, yet effective ways to recover lost opportunities such as these. Send them a few hours before your promotion is about to expire with catchy subject lines: “Did you forget?” “ Sale Ending Soon!” or my favorite, “Only One Hour Left!” I get the last email quite often from one of my favorite online clothing retailers and you know what, I panic a little. I mean, I only have an hour left, so I better get on their site and get my jeans ordered!

You can also include the end date and promotional terms right in the subject line. This is an easy way to get them to re-engage quickly. This is especially useful for lengthy promotions. Some online retailers run promotions for a month at a time, so sending reminder emails throughout the month is key!

Our clients can even schedule these follow up emails right in their Mail Wizard, making it that much easier to compose the reminder with a future send date. Or, if you are using our MailChimp integration, they offer a wide variety of marketing tools to help get your customers back into your store and get your products sold!
